Retail Manager

Purpose of the Job

The Retail Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the retail store, ensuring an exceptional customer experience while driving sales of spirits and merchandise. This role combines leadership, product expertise, inventory management, and brand engagement—including social media presence—to support overall business goals. The Retail Manager will supervise part-time team members, manage in-store tastings, and serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for the brand and its products.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Store Operations & Sales

  • Oversee day-to-day retail operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and sales reporting
  • Drive revenue through effective merchandising, upselling, and customer engagement
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to alcohol sales and tastings

Product Knowledge & Tastings

  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of all spirits, merchandise, and brand story
  • Lead and coordinate product tastings, ensuring a welcoming and educational guest experience
  • Train team members on product knowledge and responsible service practices
  • Act as a brand ambassador by sharing product insights and recommendations with customers

Inventory & Merchandising

  • Manage inventory levels, conduct regular counts, and reconcile discrepancies
  • Order and restock products and merchandise as needed
  • Monitor product rotation and ensure proper storage conditions
  • Execute merchandising strategies to maximize product visibility and sales

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time retail staff
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Ensure staff adherence to company policies and customer service standards

Social Media & Brand Engagement

  • Respond to customer inquiries and comments in a timely and professional manner
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to align messaging and campaigns

Barrel Bonus Program

TDG Team Members receive a full barrel of new-make whiskey upon their date of hire and after each additional 2 years of employment.

The barrel(s) may be sold back to the company between 2-4 years ageing at an internal company published price.

5 Year Anniversary Employee Benefit

TDG Team Members receive a $5000 (after tax) bonus upon 5-year anniversary

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, pre-employment drug testing is conducted post-conditional job offer acceptance. Requirements

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • 3+ years of retail management experience, preferably in spirits, hospitality, or specialty retail
  • Strong knowledge of spirits (bourbon, whiskey, etc.) and interest in the industry
  • Experience with inventory management and Point of Sale systems
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Alcohol server permit, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Experience managing business social media accounts preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
